Woodland Cottage near Jacksonville Dog Friendly

About this space

It seems remote, so your nervous system relaxes on 60 acres in nature’s stillness, yet it’s only 10-minutes drive to Jacksonville or Medford; 25-min to Ashland. Long stays welcome. Our sanctuary has modern comfort & convenience, a king + queen bed, 2 sofabeds, full kitchen, TV, large library + views. Our land supports evergreens, gardens, ranch critters (chicken, alpaca, dogs), a shallow pond, hilly hikes to BLM trails, peaceful places to hang out. We welcome Canine Companions ($25 fee) & Kids.

The space
Close to high culture, meaningful entertainment, & myriad recreational opportunities, our Oregon Woodland Cottage is the perfect place from which to explore the wonders of Southern Oregon and the Rogue Valley. Also a dreamy private meditation retreat space. Bring your entire family, and your dogs, come alone, with a romantic companion, or a group of friends, and enjoy a vacation in the heart of nature yet with all the modern conveniences.

The cottage is built for comfort. The living room at Oregon Woodland Cottage is large and open, 850 sqft with 10′ ceilings, the walls lined with books. You can settle to watch the 42” plasma screen TV offering cable, HBO, Showtime, and a selection of DVDs, upon one of the IKEA queen sofabeds (they easily become queen beds for sleeping upon) or a diverse choice of arm-chairs.

The living room offers walls of filled bookshelves (please read while staying with us) plus has a desk, a free-standing fireplace, and a lovely round drop-leaf kitchen table with chairs for 7. The kitchen is large and well-appointed with an excellent gas stove and oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dishwasher, garbage disposal, a good selection of pots, pans, dishes, and cutlery, and pantry space. The fridge is new, full sized with ice maker. You’ll need to bring your own food and beverages, but we supply basic condiments (oil, salt & pepper).

The large private bedroom has a California King bed, a pillow-top queen bed, a wardrobe and dressers, and several antique chairs.

Expect DSL wi-fi for all your computer connections. Expect also that we are in a valley so your cell phone probably won’t work with your carrier inside the bungalow. However, most modern cell phones have WiFi Calling as a setting and this will allow normal cell phone use. There are also a number of cell phone “sweet spots” in front of the cottage and in many outdoor areas nearby.

Oregon Woodland Cottage’s bathroom has a deep stainless steel sink and plenty of hooks for towels, which we provide in abundance. The large, custom, cultured marble shower features a bench and a pair of shower faucets so you can shower together with a friend or lover. You are welcome to use our washer and dryer located next door, just inside the main house front door in the laundry room.

Oregon Woodland Cottage has great versatility of sleeping options, so it’s terrific for a family or friends get-away adventure. There’s a comfortable California King bed and also a wonderful pillow-top queen bed in the bedroom. There’s a pair of comfortable convertible IKEA queen sofabeds in the living room. We also have two large, comfortable cots as extra beds. And the land offers several lovely, level spaces for tent camping or an extra RV to park (additional fee may apply).

Oregon Woodland Cottage is about 1000 feet higher elevation than the floor of the Rogue Valley, so in summer the area is about 10 degrees cooler. In winter, we’re usually above the valley fog. The cottage is well insulated, and even on the hottest days (occasionally 100+), the air temperature inside never rises about 79. In the winter, there’s a gas wall furnace to take the edge off and a free-standing fireplace that heats the interior so well that when there’s snow on the ground (which happens a couple times a year at our 2300 foot elevation) you’ll often have to crack the windows to cool you down. We’ll supply you with all the firewood you need.

You are welcome to bring your dog(s) when you vacation with us. Our flock of chicken wanders freely, so we ask you keep an eye on your pets – sometimes they chase chickens and that doesn’t work for us. But we love canine visitors. Please note that we charge $25 when you bring your dog(s) and we will add this to your reservation after it is accepted. We have 2 very friendly young dogs (red heelers – Ruby Tuesday is 3-years & Copper is 1 year).

You may smoke but only outside the cottage. We request you manage your residue/odor and especially your butts and the fire. We are cannabis friendly but please with outdoor use only.

Guest access
You are welcome to wander all of our 60-acres of our property; at the top of the land we border BLM horse trails. There’s obvious places to walk closer to the buildings including the meadows, the garden, the pond, the upper orchard, the canyon. You can hang in a hammock, swing in our sky chair, find plenty of shady spots to read a book or just be with the natural world, dine at our shade covered picnic table after using the bar-b-que located right outside your door, and hike some of our hilly woodland trails. We’ve put in a number of trails and can recommend hikes. We have a deck at the top of the property that provides views of the Table Rocks and even Mt. Thielsen on a cloudless day. RG might even give you a gator ride up to the horse trails on BLM land if the hike is too steep for you.

You are welcome to bring your dog(s) when you vacation with us, although we will add a $25 fee to your reservation (Please tell us about your animals so we can include the fee when we accept your reservation). We can offer a small outdoor dog run if needed. Our flock of chicken wanders freely, so we ask you keep an eye on your pets – sometimes they chase chickens and that doesn’t work for us. But we love friendly canine visitors, and so do our 2 friendly dogs.
